Yes, I know how it sounds but just hear me out and it will make sense when I am done. As I strive to learn to be a writer and how to write for a living, it has been repeated over and over that a successful writer is one who has learned to self-edit as they write. That way when they complete the rough draft they are miles closer to having a level of qaulity in their work that will be pleasing to the reader to the highest degree possible.
Since I am just begining my journey as a writer, I have not had much chance to practice editing skills. But I have found a rather fun way to practice for a few minutes a day and get immediate feedback on my progress.
You have most likely heard many games that are meant to help stimulate the mind such as Lumosity, Brain Age, and Elevate. Most of these games have exercises to help you to stimulate your brain in areas of speech and concentration as well as many others.
For the past few months I have been playing Elevate. Over this period of time I have seen marked improvement in my vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and ability to chose the right word while I write. I have also seen improvement in my ability to edit my work as write. I have notice the overall qaulity has been slowly increasing as well.
If you are trying to grow as writer like I am, it may worth giving a similar game a try. You may get results like mine. If nothing else they are pretty fun like crosswords and other brain puzzlers.
